Beyond The Kitchen
Size: 14" diameter, 17" diameter, 21" diameter (each)
In Beyond The Kitchen, Heetal Dattani uses acrylic and resin on brass thaals to transcend the conventional and domestic symbol of the kitchen, exploring the expansiveness of a woman’s identity. The circular brass plates, traditionally used in Indian households, become a canvas for portraying a boundless world where her dreams, desires, and ambitions take flight.
The clouds and skies depicted suggest infinite possibilities, symbolizing her escape from societal confines. Her personal ambitions rise, as the weight of familial responsibilities fades, and she embraces her true essence. The artwork powerfully redefines the narrative of womanhood, showing her as a limitless entity with the capacity to create, aspire, and evolve beyond the roles that may have previously defined her. Through this piece, Dattani challenges the viewer to see a woman's existence as a vast empire of dreams waiting to be explored.
