Channeling my emotions through the lens, especially using a doll as a surrogate for myself, creates a haunting yet powerful narrative. It’s fascinating how the photograph mirror our internal landscape, transforming a doll into a figure both fragile and resilient. In my self-portrait “Someone Like Me” the doll appears powerless and frightened, as though life has drained from her. Her face, outlined by dark shadows, evokes the sense that something powerful is pulling her back. It’s as if she’s no longer truly present- still here, but disconnected. Life no longer applies to her; she bears an immense weight and hangs suspended in a void of nothingness, visually representing the heavy and isolating burden of depression. Yet, despite the darkness surrounding her, she is not entirely lost. The tension between hopelessness and a subtle desire to reach for something more is present, revealing a raw vulnerability that feels intensely personal; her hand faintly reaching out, a quiet plea for hope
