This painting expresses the theme of lost ancient cities submerged in ocean waters, showcasing the remnants of sunken artifacts from ancient civilizations. There are submerged ruins in the Mediterranean Sea, particularly along the northern coast of Egypt and in the city of Alexandria, where remains from various cultures, including Pharaonic and Greek, can be found. The current city of Alexandria is essentially built atop the ancient Alexandria that lies beneath the sea.
