These artworks are inspired by the traditional Chaekgado (bookshelf painting) from the Joseon Dynasty, originally designed to showcase one’s books and treasured objects. In this piece, the shelves display traditional Korean books and items alongside Middle Eastern texts and cultural artifacts, creating a unique fusion of Joseon and Middle Eastern cultures. With a three-dimensional shelf structure, the piece shifts spatial perception according to the viewer's perspective, offering a fresh experience. This artwork visually explores the cultural intersections between East and the Middle East, harmonizing diverse symbols within a balanced and cohesive space.
This artwork is painted on silk using Seokchae, traditional Korean mineral pigments. To enhance depth and luminosity, the pigments were applied to the back of the silk, a technique known as the reverse coloring method.
