Minhwa is a traditional Korean painting style that reflects the daily life and culture of a society. While living in Dubai, I created Myojakdo, inspired by the cats around my home.
In Korean folk paintings, cats have long symbolized good fortune and peace. In this artwork, I captured their relaxed and free-spirited nature under the warm Dubai sun, merging my everyday surroundings with traditional artistic expression.
Using natural Korean pigments and traditional techniques, I sought to preserve the warmth of Minhwa while harmonizing it with Dubai’s distinct atmosphere. Through this painting, I hope to bridge the essence of Korean folk art with the place I now call home
