Echoes of the Arena

“Echoes of the Arena” is inspired by the Gladiator Summit, where the primary focus was on resilience, grit, and staying true to one’s values despite adversity. I found a powerful parallel in the sea holly, an exotic blue flower that thrives in the harshest conditions. Growing near my mother’s childhood home, it symbolizes strength, determination, protection, authenticity, grace and unwavering beauty.
To capture its essence, I froze a single bloom in ice, intuitively shifting its colours with paint. The frozen vibrant petals reflect adaptability in the way that we endure and evolve when faced with challenges. Whilst frozen, the flower appears to be both accessible and inaccessible, and as the ice melts, it emerges, vibrant and untouched at its core - a testament to the power of resilience and the beauty of staying true to oneself and one’s values.
