Pedrito K. Calauag of Manila was the one of the first cosplayers in the country. Since the 80’s up to his death in early 2014, he could be found manning his small store, selling medicinal herbs and handmade amulets, in the city slums. During Tuesdays and Fridays, he would don his red and white outfit, clutching an old Latin bible. He would enthusiastically share his twisted version of the parables to passersby who would care to listen. It was almost a surreal world with the bearded Pedrito cosplaying, with a coterie of vendors/scam artists as his flock, in the center of an overcrowded market.
