Beginning ~Sun and Moon~

ikasu | Stand : AA10

This artwork uses antique kimono fabric, traditional Japanese golden leafing technique and pine tree - wood significant for Japanese culture, for frame.

The 陰陽玉 (inyō-dama) pattern in Japanese traditional culture represents the balance of in (陰) and yo (陽)—opposing but complementary forces in nature. This motif symbolizes harmony, duality, and the cyclical nature of life. It is commonly seen in family crests (kamon), textiles, and architectural designs.

The traditional Japanese gold leafing technique is called kinpaku (金箔). Originating from Kyoto, this technique involves meticulously hammering gold into extremely thin sheets, which are then applied to surfaces like wood, paper, ceramics, and textiles. Kinpaku is commonly used in folding screens (byōbu), lacquerware (maki-e), and Noh masks, creating a luxurious and timeless aesthetic. I used it here to create a separation line accent.
