Stephan Twist

I am a fine art photographer working in analog film and alternative printing techniques to create narrative-driven visual stories. My process is hands-on, guiding each piece from concept to final print. It begins in my journal, where I sketch ideas and map out the narrative. In the studio, I collaborate with models, using improvisation to bring the story to life, then select landscapes or cityscapes that deepen the emotional tone. Shooting on film allows for intentionality and spontaneity, while hand-developing and scanning the negatives lets me construct surreal montages. I finalize each piece as a silver gelatin print, merging the tactile with the dreamlike. My work explores identity, transformation, and the metaphysical layers of existence, creating images that bridge reality and imagination.
