能登(Noto)

JCAT NY | Stand : DA05

On January 1, 2024, a devastating earthquake struck the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan—my hometown.

I was there visiting my family when the disaster occurred.

There is a saying in Noto: "Noto wa yasashiya tsuchi made mo", which means, "Even the soil of Noto is kind."

True to these words, the people of Noto are both pure-hearted and resilient.

"Maken genta!"—this phrase in the Noto dialect means "We will never be defeated!" No matter what hardships we face, we remain steadfast, looking forward with quiet strength.

This artwork embodies the spirit of Noto—its people’s resilience, gentleness, and enduring beauty.
