Lapay Wings is a tribute to the Lapay Bantigue Dance of Masbate City, a traditional performance inspired by the graceful movements of the lapay (heron) along the shores of Bantigue Island. Fishermen, observing the bird’s light steps and sweeping wings, transformed these motions into a dance that has become a proud symbol of Masbateño heritage. In this piece, one of the artist’s daughter’s closest friends serves as the muse, embodying the elegance, spirit, and freedom of the Lapay in flight, celebrating a living cultural tradition passed through generations.
